On May 29, 2011, Filipinos in Jersey City gathered in Downtown, Jersey City for the 33rd Annual Santacruzan and Street Fair to honor The Blessed Virgin Mary. The event started at 10AM with street fair, but the highlight was the Santacruzan Procession – a religious parade celebrating the month of May — Virgin Mary’s month. Out of six finalists, Vera was triumphant also because of the song she chose. The judges commended her especially her strong voice and stage presence. When yours truly asked why she picked the song, she said it matches her strong voice, and “I simply love it!” she said. (ed.
