
Former Philippine President Corazon “Cory” Aquino has passed away at 3:18AM August 1, 2009 Manila Time (Jul 31, 2009 3:18 PM ET). She died of cardio-respiratory arrest, according to her son and Philippine senator “Noynoy” Aquino.
She was 76.
Cory Aquino – the wife of the late opposition senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino – was a symbol of democracy. She led all Filipinos in the bloodless revolution in 1986 forcing the then-president Ferdinand Marcos to flee.
